Places of refuge or rest, a sanctuary perhaps, or a prison?

These small ceramic sculptures refer to the way the desire for safety and security can instead result in insularity and entrapment. Many people live in unwanted isolation due to their circumstances, they may experience great lonliness and difficulties with practical living. Others avoid company in order to protect their privacy or mental well being. There is a tipping point between seclusion and isolation and that is the thin line these contemporary sculptures seek to walk.

Inspiration comes from contemporary art and architecture.

Pieces are handmade in porcelain and high fired before being assembled. The blackthorn is gathered from local hedgerows and matured for a year.
