EMPTY VESSELS
A series of Drawings in Clay and Metal.
I mostly draw with materials - wire, paper, graphite and clay are favourite - to explore ideas. These drawings are carried out in space, in three dimensions, as I find this way of working to be the most expressive and exciting. Drawings are often of objects as ideas or metaphors, such as this Empty Vessel series.
Jug — three-dimensional drawing in porcelain and iron wire by Jan Goodey. The wire is fired into the clay with oxides, exploring fragility, containment and the vessel form. 100 × 100 mm.
Uncontained. Uncontained — three-dimensional drawing of two empty vessels in iron wire by Jan Goodey, exploring line, space and the idea of containment. 400 mm high.
Bowl — three-dimensional drawing in porcelain and iron wire by Jan Goodey. The wire, fired into the porcelain, fragments the vessel while also holding it together. 100 × 100 mm.
Empty Vessel — three-dimensional drawing in iron wire by Jan Goodey. An open, airy vessel exploring line, space and containment. 400 mm high.
Empty Vessel 2 — three-dimensional drawing in iron wire by Jan Goodey. An open vessel exploring line, volume and space. 400 mm high.
Uncontained — three-dimensional drawing in iron wire by Jan Goodey. An open vessel exploring line, space and the idea of containment. 200 × 200 mm.
Rupture — three-dimensional drawing in porcelain and iron wire by Jan Goodey. A fragmented vessel exploring rupture, fragility and containment. Bowl 250 × 250 mm, with wire extending 200 mm above.
Remnants of Empty Vessel — three-dimensional drawing in porcelain and iron wire by Jan Goodey. The remains of a vessel, exploring fragmentation, collapse and the demise of form. Dimensions variable.
fragmented empty vessel exploring breakage, fragility and containment. 250 × 250 mm.
Drawing One — three-dimensional drawing in corrugated card and aluminium wire by Jan Goodey. A study of the empty vessel using line and lightweight materials. 300 mm high.
Drawing Two — three-dimensional drawing of empty vessels in corrugated card and wire by Jan Goodey. Exploring vessel forms through line, structure and lightweight materials. 300 mm high.
